Gresham's Prep School U11 A Team v Glebe House Prep School U11 A Team

First match nerves were very evident as the U11 A Team travelled to Hunstanton to play Glebe House . Glebe started the stronger of the two sides and dictated play against some poor tackling to quickly take a 4 trys to 2 lead at half time (Evan C combining well with ArchieT for the first and a fine solo effort by Archie T for the second).

There were signs at the end of the half that Gresham's were stating to wake up. Rugby debutant Edward M had made some good ground in the wide channels, Joel W and Rex L were both starting to make some good tackles and George C and Elias F looked strong in both attack and defence before the whistle came.

The second half could have been a different Gresham's side altogether. George C, Elias F (2nd Half Captain) and Archie C all put significant pressure on the opposition and competed well for possession in contact areas. Evan C and Archie T were finding gaps in the defensive line and were attacking and defending superbly and Harry B was significantly more involved carrying for the team and looking for tackle opportunities.

Aleksey C scored first finishing a bright and continuous attacking move with some good pace and footwork then MOTM and 1st Half Captain George C finished off a fine all round performance with a try of his own. Glebe managed to find their way to the line for the final time in the match to set up a nail biting last few minutes despite the considerable efforts of "Tackle Machine" Evan C. The momentum was with the away side at this point and with their "tails up" it was no surprise to see the ever lively Archie T run the full length of the field to ensure a draw in the opening fixture of the season. An honourable mention must go to Theo B who was forced from the field due to injury after performing well early on and despite his wishes to continue he was unable to due to injury. Another mention goes to Mason CB who travelled with the team for the experience and to support which he did throughout the match with positive words or support and encouragement for his team mates.

Thank you of course to our opposition Glebe House who were not only superb players but also superb hosts on the day. We look forward to a return fixture at some stage, it was a great first fixture, thank you and best of luck for the season.
