Triangular Tournament

Gresham's Prep School - Langley Prep School - Town Close Prep School

Despite the squad being down to bare bones with injuries and unavailabilities Gresham's hosted a thoroughly enjoyable triangular tournament welcoming old friends and sporting rivals Langley Prep School and Town Close School.

Match one was between the visitors and they shared the honours after a fine display of running rugby.

Gresham's played Langley Prep in the second match which was one way traffic in the first half with the home side conceding 4 trys. However a spirited comeback led by "The "Powerhouse Duo" of George C and Evan C gave the crowd of parents and grandparents something to cheer about. The try came from a set move from a Gresham's scrum deep into Langley Prep territory. The ball was fed blind by Evan C to a thundering George C who broke through the would be defenders and dotted down confidently to score on the blindside.

Match three against Town Close was again one way traffic in the first half and was not helped by Gresham;s losing two players to injury. It was at this point that the sport of Rugby showed its impressive family spirit as Mr Twentyman (Langley Coach) offered Gresham's two of his own players. Thomas and Rushden were added to the side and played a significant role in helping Gresham's compete in the fixture. The kindness and the level of sportsmanship shown by their actions was very much appreciated and a wonderful reminder that we are all members of "The Rugby Family". My sincere thanks to both Thomas and Rushden for their valuable contribution on the field.

No wins, but a very worthwhile afternoons rugby and some fine individual performances worthy of note. George C and Evan C were impressive in both attack and defence and acted as role models for their team mates. Theo B was energetic and effective making tackles all over the park and carrying strongly. Edward M also tackled aggressively preventing a number of certain trys in the wide channels and carried well. Archie C and Archie T constantly looked for opportunities to pressurise opponents and offer to carry in attack in busy performances.

Thank you to all the boys from all three schools for their efforts and contributions today. Our thanks to Langley Prep and Town Close for the competition and for their sportsmanship and help on the day.

As always a huge thank you to all of the parents and Grandparents who came to support the boys your support means so much to the boys. A special thanks is also extended to Mrs Sarah Atkinson who did such a wonderful job acting as First Aid support for the U11 A and the U11/U10 boys matches on the day.
