Boys U11 A Team - Rugby

Beeston Hall v Gresham's

Gresham's played Beeston Hall at home before half term and it proved to be the most exciting match of the season so far ending in a hard fought 3-3 draw. After a cancelled fixture Beeston expressed an interest in offering a return fixture and Gresham's jumped at the opportunity.

The squad remained unchanged from the previous fixture with Joey P again captaining the side. Gresham's started well and James C carried strongly out wide to start the scoreboard ticking over. Gresham's were moving the ball "coast to coast" and keeping the ball alive in contact to great effect and it was no surprise when the next score came after a period of pressure with Noah C finally making the line from a free kick.

At half time Gresham's had been made to work hard in both attack and defence and had earned their two try lead.

Strong running and good ball protection from Robert S and Noah C amongst others allowed space out wide for Gresham's and Olaolu A took full advantage adding three trys to the scoreboard to no reply from their opposition. Beeston played well and deserved more to show from their own efforts but Gresham's defence held fast to record a clean sheet on the day.

MOTM award is so difficult in a game like this due to the high number of excellent performances throughout the squad. For his outstanding all round performance in both halves for his team-mates the MOTM this week goes to Oscar BW.

George VC and Capt Joey P deserve mentions for their improved tackling on the day and Raphie K for his rucking (helping to ensure possession for the next attacking phase) and his willingness to carry the ball. As per usual both Stanley B and Alex D had good all round performances the former nearly scoring one of the trys of the season only to be denied by a last ditch wonder tackle by a Beeston player.

As always thank you to all of our wonderful parents for their support of the boys come rain or shine (usually rain). Thank you to our Hosts Beeston for another fabulous fixture and for their superb hospitality after the match.

Next up is the penultimate match of the season against Langley Prep School on Wednesday 29th November.
