Gresham's U11 A Team v Beeston Hall U11 A Team
The most exciting game of the season so far was played out at Gresham's on Saturday as they welcomed old friends Beeston Hall in front of good sized group of parents from both schools.
The game started at break neck speed with both sides using the ball well before and during contact to keep attacking phase after phase.
The pace of the game was to continue throughout the match with both sides refusing to yield and competing for the ball ferociously at the breakdowns.
Gresham's found themselves 2 trys to 1 down at the half time break with Oscar B-W being the only Gresham's player able to find his way to the line despite a considerable team effort.
Gresham's determined to compete more intelligently at the breakdown in the second half and some fantastic tackling (led by MOTM Robert S) proved to be the turning point for additional possession and attacking opportunity for the home side. Flying winger Olaolu A and powerhouse Noah C added their names to the score sheet to close the game to a three all draw scoreline.
With mere seconds on the clock Gresham's found themselves five metres from the Beeston try line playing from a free kick and despite two further infringements the brave defence of the opposition side was enough to keep Gresham's from crossing the line and ensure a draw.
This was a fantastic match with both sides giving 100 percent. The speed of play, handling and physicality from both sets of boys was amazing for an Under 11 fixture and every player should be very proud of their contribution. Thank you to Captain Joey P and Vice Captain George VC for their leadership on the day and congratulations to debutant Freddie H who had a great first match for the A team this season (Go Freddie).
Gresham's MOTM goes to Robert S for his tireless work in defence, making tackle after tackle and turning the ball over regularly as a result.
Thank you to Beeston for a wonderful match very much in the spirit of the game. Thank you to all of the parents for their positive support of the boys and to the Gresham's Kitchen staff for the very welcome refreshments at the end of the day.
Final score Gresham's 3 Beeston Hall 3 (what a cracker).
