The U14B put Norwich in to bat on a cold and damp afternoon at Redmayne Fields. Their openers did well, putting an a partnership of 40 runs, but after Oli Randell and then Tommy Ringer took the wickets of their good players, Norwich couldn’t keep up the scoring rate. They scored 106 for 6 off their 20 overs. Will Johnson, Captain for the day, also took 2 late wickets, just by pitching the ball up.
It looked a fair total to chase – the weather made for difficult fielding and both teams are rusty at the start of the season. Joe Harrison was the pick of the Gresham’s batsmen, scoring 19 runs, but then the heart of the team just couldn’t get going. 7 of the 10 wickets lost were bowled, suggesting that our batsmen just threw their wickets away, not playing straight to straight balls. We came 20 runs short, all out for 87. Josh Howland put up a late stand, batting at 9 with a good technique, but we didn’t have the batting strength to deserve more.
