Match Report
Gresham's School Boys-U14B vs  Wymondham College
On: Saturday, 18 May 2019
Venue: at Home

On an overcast but mild afternoon on the New Field, Gresham's U14Bs put Wymondham 14A team, into bat. We got a quick wicket, but then their opener with No.3 and then No.4 batsmen put on 2 excellent partnerships, their opener Worly eventually retiring on 52. We slowed down the batting progress, with 2 wickets from skipper Will Johnson. Alston, Harrison and Widdowson also got a wicket each, but the bowling was not as tight as it should have been. Gresham's were better in the field, with Allen, Ellis and Betts good on the chase and throw.

After tea, our openers started well, chasing just under 6 runs per over, with Roper especially looking on good form and upsetting the field placings with his left handed batting. Johnson ably supported him with some straight batting. Wymondham had a simple but devastating swing bowler who come on after 4 overs, and got both Allen and Ellis for golden ducks. He finished with 7 wickets. Only Betts worked out how to play him, and as a result got the top score of the innings, 24 runs, before being c'n'b. 143 runs was always going to be a tough target, and the last wicket fell on105 runs.

It was a good match, and with a bit of luck can be repeated before the season is out.
