Match Report
Gresham's School 1st XI Girls vs  Leicester Grammar School
On: Monday, 09 May 2022
Venue: at Home

Monday saw the girls’ First XI playing on the Main Square again in the second round of the national cup competition. In the unfamiliar format of The Hundred, a side that included no girls above Year 10 lost the toss and were put into bat by a far older Leicester Grammar School team. Charlotte Gaunt opened with an impressive 35, followed by Esther Broad with 26 and Maddison Haworth-McKenna with 23 as we posted a slightly below par 118 – still well over a run per ball.

However, it turned out that Leicester had an academy player who represents Loughborough Lightning in the women’s national league competition. Opening the batting, she scored an incredible 96 not out – 90% of the side’s runs! The girls bowled fantastically – it’s very unlikely that any other side would bowl as few as 2 extras in 100 balls of cricket this season! But the batting display was simply too good to the point that we will be talking about it for some years to come as we watch this girl batting in televised matches in future.

So we have another great performance and more great experience for our ever-improving side.
