Match Report
Gresham's School The Legendary U14Cs vs  Norwich School
On: Saturday, 21 Apr 2018
Venue: Away

The U14Cs had a thrilling match against Norwich, the upper hand changing by the over. Posting 128, with Ben Harvey-Samuel hitting an impressive 32, Sam Grand claiming 23 and Toby Collins 22, we felt we had set a competitive target on a pitch with a very slow outfield. Eight bowlers took 3 overs each - a fairly remarkable achievement for C Team cricket - and each played their part in a tight performance in the field. Norwich started slowly but soon opened the shoulders as the result became impossible to call. The crowd grew as parents from other matches heard that a real humdinger was taking place in our bobbly corner of Beeston Hyrne. Wickets fell to the bowling of Oli Bailey and Harry Short, while the fielders engineered 4 runouts, two for Bertie Proctor. Toby Collins shored up his end with only 7 runs scored off his 3 overs. At the other end, Alex Roper bowled a captain's stint, taking two wickets for 9 runs off his 4 overs, including an incredibly pressured final over that saw out the match for a win that went to the final ball. Norwich needed four runs for the win off the final ball, but after Roper's final snorting delivery couldn't be dug out for more than a single, the jubilant U14Cs secured the win by 3 runs. After an outstanding team performance, man of the match must be shared between Harvey-Samuel, Collins, and Roper.
